Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Hyperpyron (Gold, 26 mm, 4.10 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis. Bust of Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls furnished with six groups of towers and flanked by A - A. Rev. Emperor kneeling slightly to right, wearing crown and loros, being presented by Archangel Michael to Christ enthroned slightly to left and holding scroll in his left hand; below, cross. DOC 12. PCPC 4 (sigla 11). SB 2242. An unusually complete example. Faint scratches, otherwise, very fine.
